Monochrome Corners

Hello! These are the nails I've been sporting over the weekend. These were inspired by Gwen Stefani's nails from her OPI collection. I didn't actually use OPI polishes as they're a bit too pricey for me - the only one I own is Nail Envy! Here are Gwen's nails:

For my version, I used a base coat of Snow Me White by Sinful Colors. This is my new white since my Sally Hansen one ran out. I then used my Barry M nail art pen to fill in the black sections. I find this easier than faffing about with tape. A weird problem that occured that hasn't before is that when the black dried, it cracked. Here's a pic, I'm not sure whether it was the new white base that caused it? Either way - annoying!

I went over the black a few times, but it didn't really help cover the cracks. A topcoat did help smooth them out though. I toyed with the idea of adding studs, but eventually decided not to. I liked how my nails looked with them, but I was away this weekend in Inverness and I didn't want to be constantly making sure the studs hadn't pinged off, sticking them back on etc, so I left them plain. Here's a pic of how I would have added studs (on all fingers!)

A lovely compliment I got over the weekend was a barmaid asking if they were real, and when I did them myself she asked if they were wraps or stickers! Always good to know your nails look as good as false ones! These lasted really well, despite me breaking the nail on my little finger on my left hand on the train up! :-( Some more photos:

    1. Cheers Rebecca! I think it would look good on your nails at the current length! X

  2. I love the simplicity of this design! It's stunning! That happened to me with the Barry M Nail Art pen too, I'm not sure why either! I think the design looks nice both with and without the studs! :)

    1. It's never happened to me before and I'm on my second one! I've been using this one loads but it was only this time that it went weird. Maybe it was my new white? I might try using a topcoat over the white, and then the pen next time I want to use it over that one! :-) Xx

    2. Yeah, maybe it's the polish then. Sometimes adding a topcoat on after you've used the pen stops it from cracking too, you could always try that maybe? :)

    1. Thanks - I think that's partly why I didn't add the studs - I liked the plain, clean lines :-) Xx

  5. I thought you'd painted the white with polish over a black polish base - I'm impressed with your steady hand. Did you do your other hand too? It's a gorgeous design.
I'm feeling sad today, as although I cut my nails short on Friday, they looked lovely with dark blue polish & a very sparkly topcoat. Until I somehow broke my index nail on my right hand whilst cooking today, & it split off really low down. No chance of attempting a repair, it split halfway across, so I just had to pull it off. Now it's hideously short & very sore. And looks ridiculous, as I've left the polish on.

    1. Oh no! Nail breaks are sad :-( As well as my repaired one (that I keep having to re-do every few days, it's getting worse!!) I broke my little finger nail on the same hand at the weekend too :-( Still not ready to make them all short though. And yes I did do the other hand, it wasn't too bad :-D xx

  6. These looks great! I love them and I think it's a good decision to not add studs because I think the strength of the design comes from how clean and simple they look :) Too bad for the nail break though, that's always so sad :(
